Further with Ford: Future of Sustainable Cities, The Automation Effect & The ABC's Of XYZ

On June 23rd I traveled to sunny California to attend  Further with Ford trends conference, this discussion provided an inside look at the innovations and trends changing the way the world moves. Ford focused on three trends: The Future of Sustainable Cities, The Automation Effect & The ABC's Of XYZ and I'm going to give you a quick summary of what I learned during each session.

Future of Sustainable Cities

The world's population is growing. By 2030, it is likely two thirds of people will live in cites. Congestion will strain the way we live and commute, natural resources could be scare and pollution will impact health.  I really enjoyed Pashon Murray during this segment she is the co-founder of Detroit Dirt; Detroit Dirt, a compost company - working to turn forgotten parcels of land in Detroit into urban farms that not only feed, but revitalize the community.

"We’re all part of this ecosystem. Contamination and pollution don’t discriminate. There’s not an area that isn’t affected by how we waste." Pashon Murray, Co-Founder, Detroit Dirt; Founder, Sustainable Integrations

The Automation Effect

Mobility and automation are shaping the future of all industries. In particular, as the automotive industry transition to a new era that will see wider availability of transportation-as-a-service, including automation such as "self-driving" car. What will that mean to the way people interact with cars and transportation? The Automation Effect explored the psychological and anthropological effects on consumers.

The six ingredients needed to create a fully autonomous technology experience. The key ingredient not pictured? People.

Ken Washington VP, Research and Advanced Engineering, Ford Motor Company

“Automation is not just about automation in a technical sense—it’s almost about what happens when things come to life. It’s about this notion of making life.”

Genevieve Bell Intel Fellow, VP, Corporate Strategy, Intel
"I think that society will become more comfortable with autonomous technologies as they become more integrated into our system."

 The ABC's Of XYZ

The ABC's of XYZ explored how each generational group is impacting the future of business, education, technology and entertainment. This was my favorite segment because it featured Susan Paley, Tech Entrepreneur, former CEO, Beats by Dre, Sophia Amoruso, Founder, Creative Director of Nasty Gal and Alexis Ohanian Co-Founder of Reddit

“The alchemy of culture, style and rebellion worked for Beats, it resonated with Gen Y and will continue to resonate with Gen Z.” Susan Paley Tech Entrepreneur, former CEO, Beats by Dre

“You don’t need to open a factory to change the world; you just need to open a laptop." Alexis Ohanian Co-Founder, Reddit

"The internet has created a new type of resourcefulness."
Sophia Amoruso Founder, Creative Director, Nasty Gal
