2018 Audi Q5 offers highest EPA-estimated fuel economy in competitive segment

With a competitive segment-leading, EPA-estimated 25-mpg combined fuel economy rating, the 2018 Audi Q5 offers exceptional driving dynamics, performance and efficiency, and is arriving in dealer showrooms this month.

Featuring a new generation of quattro® all-wheel drive with ultra® technology, that helps to optimize performance and efficiency, the Q5 achieves EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings of 23 mpg city and 25 mpg combined, a +3 mpg improvement over its predecessor model. No other luxury SUV in its competitive segment offers higher EPA-estimated city or combined mileage.

The new quattro® all-wheel drive system with ultra® technology is the most radical evolution of quattro since its introduction in the early 1980’s on the Audi Quattro Coupe. Created by Audi engineers, quattro® with ultra® technology utilizes an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch along with a decoupling rear axle differential to achieve fully variable torque distribution. This allows for intelligent, proactive control of the all-wheel drive system to help predictively modify the torque application as the driver demands or the road conditions require.
Unlike other on-demand all-wheel drive systems that can take up to two seconds to fully engage, quattro with ultra technology works electromechanically, and can be fully engaged in under 250 milliseconds. A series of pins, levers and springs engage and disengage a unique front-multi plate clutch, to divide torque between the front and rear as needed, while a rear dog leg clutch connects and disconnects the prop shaft and rear differential for maximum efficiency.
In addition, sensors monitor situations all over the car, such as wheel slip, cornering speed and engine torque. All of this data is processed by a computer that is running simulations every 10 milliseconds, estimating what traction will be like 500 milliseconds into the future. When the system expects that torque will exceed available traction, the system engages quattro in half the time before it is even needed, with no perceptible difference from a traditional all-wheel-drive system.
First introduced on the 2017 A4 allroad, quattro with ultra technology is now available on the 2017 A4 with manual transmission, the 2018 A5 Coupe with manual transmission and the 2018 Q5 2.0T.
2018 Audi Q5
Featuring a new 2.0-liter TFSI® four-cylinder engine, coupled with a seven-speed S tronic® dual-clutch automatic transmission, to produce 252 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque, the Q5 can sprint from 0-60 mph in 5.9 seconds, 1.1 seconds faster than its predecessor.
With a number of standard driver assistance systems, including Audi pre sense basic and city, and infotainment features including the available Audi virtual cockpit, the Q5 is not only efficient, but is also designed to help drivers navigate the road and traffic while making their driving experience more enjoyable.
From its improved efficiency, to its exceptional driving dynamics and advanced technologies, the 2018 Q5 further enriches the highly versatile segment leading Audi nameplate.

Audi TTS named one of Wards 10 Best Interiors

Audi returned to the Wards 10 Best Interiors list this year with the all-new Audi TTS. The WardsAuto editors look for vehicles with impressive aesthetics and design harmony in addition to testing the user friendliness of the human-machine interface to see how effectively vehicle information is communicated to the driver and passengers.

"We are honored that the industry-leading interior design of the TTS has earned such high praise from WardsAuto," said Scott Keogh, President Audi of America. "The TTS perfectly represents Audi's leadership in designing beautiful interiors with exceptional integration of technology that offers both the driver and passengers a great environment and a comfortable driving experience."
The Audi TTS transforms the way the driver interacts with the vehicle through the innovative Audi virtual cockpit – an entirely digital dashboard designed for a driver-centric experience with 3D graphics and brilliant clarity. The 12.3-inch TFT display combines the functions of a traditional central MMI® monitor and analog gauges into one. A quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor can render up to 60 frames per second and helps ensure functions are displayed with absolute precision while making viewing and navigating via full-screen Google Earth™ images, supported with 4G LTE (where available), easier on the drivers’ eyes.

From its standard S sport seats with S embossing, to the integrated head restraints and deeply sculpted adjustable side bolsters, the TTS is a sports car with a high degree of everyday practicality. WardsAuto editors were also “thoroughly smitten” with the optional Express Red Fine Nappa leather interior.

The TTS also features a revolution in HVAC controls that eliminate the need for a conventional dash console and instead integrates fan speed, air vent selection and temperature directly into the center of the three central vents, underlining the clean, uncluttered design of the interior. Controls for the standard heated seat controls are also integrated in the side air vents further eliminating buttons and switches from the interior.

The TTS was chosen from a field of 47 nominees – 18 SUV or CUVs, 15 sedans, five hatchbacks, three coupes, three pickup trucks, two convertibles and one minivan. Past Wards 10 Best Interiors list accolades for Audi have included the A8 luxury sedan and the A7 Sportback.

2017 Audi Q7 earns a 2016 Top Safety Pick+ Rating from IIHS

The all-new 2017 Audi Q7 has been named an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety 2016 Top Safety Pick+, earning “good” ratings in all five IIHS crashworthiness evaluations and a “superior” rating for front crash prevention. Top Safety Pick+ is the highest 2016 rating available from IIHS.

“This year’s Top Safety Pick+ award for the 2017 Q7 represents our brand’s longstanding commitment to bringing innovative technologies to the market,” said Scott Keogh, President Audi of America. “The Q7 demonstrates our leadership in many of the advanced driver assistance systems today that will form the future of piloted driving tomorrow.”

The Audi brand’s focus on elevating standards for automotive engineering addresses evolving criteria for consumer crash tests as designated by the IIHS. The 2017 Q7, with a fully reinforced structure, builds on the model’s good ratings in the Institute's other crashworthiness tests.

The standard Audi pre sense city with automatic emergency braking earned the 2017 Q7 a “superior” rating for front crash prevention. The system can detect moving and stationary vehicles as well as pedestrians, at speeds of up to 52 mph and initiates braking when a potential collision is detected.

The 2017 Q7 3.0L TFSI engine generates 333 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque. While the exterior dimensions have remained similar to the outgoing model, the all-new Q7 offers substantially more interior room for passengers with seating for up to seven standard. With exceptionally competent dynamics, driver assistance systems and connectivity, the all-new Q7 sets a new benchmark for the luxury SUV segment.

IIHS Top Safety Pick Ratings
IIHS tests evaluate two aspects of safety: crashworthiness — how well a vehicle protects its occupants in a crash — and crash avoidance and mitigation — technology that can prevent a crash or lessen its severity.

To determine crashworthiness, IIHS rates vehicles good, acceptable, marginal or poor, based on performance in five tests: moderate overlap front, small overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints. In the area of crash avoidance and mitigation, IIHS assigns vehicles with available front crash prevention systems ratings of basic, advanced or superior, based on the type of system and performance in track tests.

Audi 2.5 TFSI voted "International Engine of the Year" for sixth time

The Audi 2.5-liter TFSI engine is the “International Engine of the Year” for 2015 in the 2 to 2.5-liter category. The five-cylinder engine has now won the award for the sixth consecutive time.

An international panel of experts comprising 65 automotive journalists voted the 2.5 TFSI the winner in its class. The jury gave these reasons for its decision: “Reliable Audi quality and excellent tuning make this engine a genuine pleasure to drive. No synthetically designed sound could replace the passionate sound of this magnificent in-line five-cylinder engine.”
Board Member for Technical Development, Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg: “Five-cylinder engines have a long tradition at our company. They made Audi a sporty brand back in the 1980s. The 2.5 TFSI in the new Audi RS 3 Sportback is the epitome of automotive passion with its immense torque, voracious revving abilities and a very unique sound. This award is a wonderful validation of our strategic advanced development of this engine.”

In the new Audi RS 3 Sportback, the direct-injection and turbocharged 2.5 TFSI engine produces 270 kW (367 hp) and makes the RS 3 Sportback the most powerful car in the premium compact class. Its peak torque of 465 Nm (343.0 lb-ft) is already available at 1,625 rpm and remains constant up to 5,550 rpm. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62.1 mph) in 4.3 seconds and can reach a top speed of 280 km/h (174.0 mph).

Audi launches innovative mobility program: Audi on demand

On April 27th, Audi introduced Audi on demand, an innovative mobility program that gives customers a new way to experience the Audi brand and its range of vehicles at the touch of a button. With Audi on demand, customers can reserve an Audi by the day for up to 28 days.  The premium service is currently available in San Francisco as part of a beta program and will be rolled out across additional U.S. cities in the coming years.

Audi on demand gives customers access to a wide range of the Audi vehicle lineup, from the Audi A4 sedan to Audi R8 supercar. Via the Audi on demand app – currently available for download in the Apple App store – customers select their preferred Audi model. It is then personally delivered to them at the location of their choice by an Audi on demand concierge, who will help the customer get acquainted with the vehicle, from setting music preferences to tailoring the navigation system. Customers are able to lock and unlock their vehicle, as well as enable driving via the Audi on demand app or via a personal key card. No membership fee is required.  Additionally, the vehicle the customer sees and requests in the Audi on demand app will be the same vehicle delivered to them – down to the exact color and trim.

“Audi on demand embodies the brand’s core values of technological progress and a love for discovery,” said Mark Del Rosso, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Audi of America. “The service is rooted in customization, personalization and having the right car for the right moment. While competing services point their customers to vehicles parked on the street, Audi on demand delivers a truly premium experience, with concierges personally delivering and returning vehicles for customers where and when they need them.”

Audi on demand allows fans to match specific vehicles to their driving needs. For example, customers planning a trip to the mountains might request an Audi Q5, while those looking to arrive in style in wine country might request a sporty S7 or RS 5. All Audi on demand vehicles come equipped with Premium Plus trim and complimentary additional features, such as SiriusXM® satellite radio and MMI Navigation plus, as well as quattro® all-wheel drive.

Audi on demand also allows customers to customize their vehicles with several complimentary accessories. Child safety seats are available for all models, and ski racks and bicycle racks are available for the Audi allroad and Q5. Customers have the option of picking up their vehicle or having it delivered to a location of their choosing within the city of San Francisco. These locations could be curbside, outside of a business or residence, or in private off-street parking of any kind, such as a driveway or private parking lot. Since the Audi on demand app features a digital key, repeat customers with private parking have the option of having their vehicle dropped off and picked up at specific delivery times without needing to meet a concierge as they are able to instantly access the vehicle from their smartphone.

Please visit the Apple App Store to download the Audi on demand app and sign up for the waitlist to be one of the first to experience Audi on demand.
For more information on Audi on demand, please visit: www.audiondemand.com. More information about the complete lineup of on demand vehicles can be found at www.audiusa.com.

Audi on demand is just one mobility service offered by Audi that challenges traditional concepts of vehicle ownership and usage. Soon to launch is Audi at home, a premium, collaborative car initiative that refashions mobility as a personalized micro-sharing experience. Located in select premium condominium complexes, residents can utilize their smartphones to access a car share service with an exclusive fleet of Audi vehicles. These include RS models, cabriolets and SUVs, with plans to also feature the all-new Audi A3 Sportback e-tron®, the first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle Audi is making available in the US market. The service allows customers to enjoy the benefits of driving an Audi at their convenience. Rates are hourly and prices vary by model.
