Further With Ford Conference 2016

On Monday September 12, I had the opportunity to attend Ford's annual Further with Ford Conference in Dearborn MI. It's clear that Ford is constantly thinking about the future and technology every day and in the next 5 years they are breaking the mold. Below are my highlights from the two-day event.

Day One: Dan Ariely, James B. Duke professor of psychology and behavioral economics, Duke University, kicked off the conference with his session entitled "Why Do We Do the Things We Do?"

"Our decisions are a function of the environment around us."

Are you ready for self driving cars? Well in five years Ford has plans to launch level 4 autonomous vehicles -- which means the vehicle performs all safety-critical functions for the entire trip, with the driver not expected to control the vehicle at any time. As this vehicle would control all functions from start to stop, including all parking functions, it could include unoccupied cars. Ford is planning to offer an on demand shuttle service for employees using autonomous vehicles beginning in 2018.

Ford x B&O PLAY Sound System Announcement: Ford and HARMAN are collaborating to revolutionize the in-vehicle audio experience with B&O PLAY; the new system arrives exclusively on Ford’s global vehicle lineup starting next year

Day 2: Started with Finance's Andy Serwer and Executive Chairman Bill Ford.

Then we were on to the Dearborn Development Center: to get hands on with the vehicles and technology

Ford Motor Company paid for my travel and accommodations at the two-day conference. I was not compensated in any other matter for my time. My opinions posted here are my own.
